Police: Man shot, injured while trying to flee officers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Police in Kentucky have arrested a man and charged him with four counts of trying to murder a police officer before fleeing and barricading himself inside a home for about eight hours.

Louisville police said Friday that a detective who shot the man, 26-year-old Daniel Allen, is on administrative reassignment while the case is investigated. News outlets report police said the detective, Robert Holland, fired multiple rounds, hitting Allen, who was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police said they found Allen in a stolen van Thursday. When they tried to block him, police said Allen tried to escape, hitting several cruisers and nearly hitting officers surrounding the van on foot.

Allen is also charged with wanton endangerment, burglary, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, fleeing or evading police and criminal trespassing.
