Police investigating after middle school zoom class was interrupted
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Montgomery County Schools and police are investigating after a middle school zoom class was interrupted by a unauthorized online intruder.
In a letter to parents, Superintendent Matthew Thompson says during a distance learning class Tuesday at McNabb Middle School, an unauthorized user got into the meeting and “engaged in unsafe behaviors and used profanity.” Thompson says when the teacher became aware, the visitor was removed.
Law Enforcement and the administration are looking into what happened. The District says there are safety protocols already in place for zoom sessions. But says there will be more steps taken to prevent similar incidents in the future, including training for staff on how to set up their Zoom meetings with students to limit opportunities for disruption and
inappropriate behavior.
“We want to praise and thank the McNabb students and teachers who were on the Zoom
call today and their appropriateness in dealing with the situation,” Thompson said.
