Police identify officer involved in fatal Shelby County shooting
SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Shelbyville police have identified the officer involved in Monday’s fatal shooting of a woman.
They say he is 46-year-old Frank Fallis.
Shelbyville Police say they were called for a welfare check on a resident on Mary Crest Drive at around 9 p.m. Monday. They say they were also trying to locate a black Nissan Murano driven by 31-year-old Ashleigh Bertucci of Louisville.
Police say they were told Ashleigh may have a gun and could be dangerous. Officers found Bertucci, who they say was armed with a gun, on the corner of Tealwood Drive and Mary Crest Drive and there was a confrontation. During the confrontation, they say Fallis shot Ashleigh.
She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Shelbyville Police say Fallis has been a law enforcement officer for 25 years and has worked for the department for several months. Prior to working at the Shelbyville Police Department, he retired as an officer from the Frankfort Police Department.
He has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance to department policy.
Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting.
