Police: Driver smashes car, runs from police

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) Police say a driver smashed his car then ran off early Tuesday morning in Lexington.

They say it started when an officer tried to make a traffic stop just before 1 a.m. He spotted a driver going slow in the emergency lane with his turn signal on. When the officer put on his lights, the driver sped off.

Police say that driver lost control of his car and hit a barrier on West New Circle at the Old Frankfort exit. The driver then got out and ran. Police brought in K-9 units but could not find the driver.

The roadway was shut down for more than hour while the debris from the wreck was cleaned up and the car was towed.
