UPDATE: Investigation into plane crash, missing pilot continues
FALLS OF ROUGH, Ky. (AP) -Kentucky State Police investigating a plane crash and missing pilot say they have removed the plane’s engine for further examination. Police say they still have not been able to determine what caused the crash, and say it may take months to come to a conclusion.
Officials with the Medical Examiner’s Office say they have not been able to positively identify the body found on-scene as missing pilot Robert Dalzell. They say they are looking at medical and dental records to try to come up with a match.
Troopers say the wreckage remains where it was found, due to natural obstacles complicating its removal.

Kentucky State Police say debris spotted from a helicopter is from a plane that’s been missing in western Kentucky since Monday. Investigators say the pilot’s body has been removed from the plane by the Hancock County Coroner and is enroute to Louisville for an autopsy Thursday morning. Investigators say they are unable to positively confirm the body to be Robert Dalzell; however, the family has been notified of the findings.
Police said in a news release Wednesday night that the site is in thick woods in the Fordsville community of Hancock County. The release said the Federal Aviation Administration will be at the scene Thursday to investigate.
Police said earlier that the 70-year-old pilot, Robert C. Dalzell Jr., left the Owensboro Regional Airport on Monday morning and landed at Falls of Rough in Grayson County about 35 minutes later. The statement says he departed later from the Falls of Rough, but never returned to the Owensboro airport.
Kentucky State Police say his last cellphone activity showed him within 5 miles of the Falls of Rough airport.
