Police: Child found in park frequented area

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville police say a child found dead in Cherokee Park has been identified and frequented the area with his family.

Lt. Todd Kessinger said on Wednesday the child was 12-years-old and well known along with his mother and step-father at the Mid-City Mall east of downtown Louisville. Kessinger said the boy went to school in southern Indiana, but did not give his name or cause of death.

Kessinger said the death is considered a homicide.

A passer-by at the popular park found the boy on a foot path in woods off the park’s Scenic Loop between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday. Kessinger said the boy’s parents reported him missing about five hours later.

Kessinger said investigators have no reason to believe a family member was involved in the death.
