Police chase D.U.I. suspect near Christmas parade

LONDON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – One man is facing multiple charges after police say he drove under the influence and attempted to flee officers near the London Christmas Parade.

According to the London Police Department, 48-year-old Jerimie Coffey was arrested Friday around 7 p.m. near the parade route. Officers say Coffey allegedly drove around a road barrier on East Third Street and onto the sidewalk toward officers.

Police report that despite multiple commands to stop, Coffey continued driving until his vehicle malfunctioned. When officers approached the vehicle, they say an officer detected the smell of alcohol coming from Coffey.

After being ordered to get out of the vehicle, police say Coffey instead continued driving down East Third Street. He was taken into custody following a short chase.

Investigators also determined Coffey did not have a valid driver’s license or active vehicle insurance at the time of the arrest.

Coffey is charged with reckless driving, DUI and fleeing or evading police. He is currently being held at the Laurel County Detention Center.
