Teen charged in connection with Ohio Street shootings

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Lexington teen has been charged in connection with shootings that happened on Sunday Jan. 7 in the 500-block of Ohio Street.

Investigators with the Lexington Police Department charged Carlos Aranda-Gaspar, 19, with Assault 1st, Assault 2nd (two counts), and Wanton Endangerment 1st (7 counts) for his involvement in the shooting.

According to police, the shooting happened around 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7.

Police say they, along with the Lexington Fire Department, were responding to a house fire, also in the 500-block of Ohio Street.

While on scene, officers and fire personnel say they heard gunshots in the area.  Shortly after, officers located the scene and found 3 victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

All three victims were taken to the hospital, one of which sustained life-threatening injuries.

Through the course of the investigation, based on evidence and witness statements, detectives determined that the victims were shot while walking in the area, by the suspect, who was inside of a vehicle that then fled the scene following the shooting.

Police say Aranda-Gaspar was already in custody at the Fayette County Detention Center on Robbery charges stemming from gas station robberies that occurred on January 8th and 9th.  Detectives believe that the suspect and victims where acquaintances.
