Police: Attempted Luring Case In Lexington Neighborhood

Police are ramping up patrols in one Lexington neighborhood after two students say two men in a red truck tried to lure them into their vehicle.

The incident happened around 7 a.m. at Allante Brook Court and Wilson Downing Road.

Police said the kids were waiting for their school bus when two men pulled up in a red Chevy pickup with aluminum pipes.

Officers attempted to locate the vehicle but were unsuccessful. One man is described as thin with a dirty t-shirt and the other man had a red hat on.

The School Law Enforcement were notified and sent out this letter.

Dear Academy for Leadership at Millcreek Families:

As you know, your children are our number one priority at Millcreek and their safety and well-being are of utmost importance to us. In an effort to maintain open lines of communication between home and school, I wanted to let you know about an incident that happened this morning in one of the neighborhoods our school serves.
One of our students has reported that while he was at the bus stop near the intersection of Wilson Downing and Allante Brook, a man driving a red pickup truck motioned toward him to get in the truck. He and another child at the bus stop ran home. The incident has been reported to the Lexington Police Department and they are investigating. Officers will increase patrols in the vicinity.

This provides an excellent opportunity to reinforce with our kids how important it is for them to be aware of their surroundings and to be cautious around strangers. Students who walk to school or the bus stop are encouraged to stay in pairs or groups, avoid darkened areas and use main streets instead of shortcuts.
Thank you for the privilege of working with your children and for your understanding that we take matters like this very seriously. As always, please don’t hesitate to call me with questions or concerns at 381-3527.

Sincerely,

Schuronda Morton
Interim Principal
