Police: 1 dead after workplace accident at cement plant

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Officials say a person has died after a workplace accident at a cement plant in Louisville.

Louisville Metro Police Officer Roger Collins tells news outlets that the man was pronounced dead at Cemex Kosmos Cement Plant on Tuesday evening.

Collins says a preliminary investigation appears to show that the man died as a result of a pulley system mechanical failure.

Officials have not released his identity. The investigation is ongoing.

Officials say the death is being considered a workplace accident. Collins did not say whether or not the victim was an employee at the plant.

The company hadn’t released a statement as of early Wednesday morning.

This is not the first time someone has died at the plant. In 2014, a contract worker died after falling down an elevator shaft.
