Plan calls for pipeline to carry natural gas liquids

LEBANON, Ky. (AP) — A proposal to "repurpose" a natural gas pipeline that runs through 18 counties in Kentucky is drawing some concerns.

The Lexington Herald-Leader (http://bit.ly/1HxNA6j) reports officials in central Kentucky say they worry about the ramifications if there’s a leak or an explosion, especially near rivers and lakes that supply communities with water.

The controversy stems from a proposal by Kinder Morgan to sell a portion of the Tennessee Gas Pipeline to a subsidiary, which would convert the line to carry natural gas liquids instead of natural gas.

Officials in central Kentucky say their major concern is keeping the drinking water supply safe.

Kinder Morgan spokesman Richard Wheatley said the company would examine the pipeline closely, upgrade any areas in need and thoroughly test it before returning it to service.
