Pitino agrees to a home-and-home between UK and St. John’s
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – St. John’s Men’s Head Basketball Coach Rick Pitino says he’s all for a home-and-home series with his former team, the Kentucky Wildcats.
Pitino made his comments on his X account Monday, apparently in reference to UK Head Coach Mark Pope’s suggestion, during his introductory news conference Sunday at Rupp Arena.
Pope was captain of Pitino’s 1996 National Championship team at Kentucky.
Pitino left Kentucky in 1997 to coach in the NBA, but returned to the Commonwealth in 2001 to coach at UK’s rival, Louisville.
He just ended his first year at St. John’s, while Pope begins his first as Kentucky’s head coach.
No word yet on when those games would be scheduled.
