Pike County nursing home flooding residents relocated
PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Residents of the Elkhorn Health Rehabilitation assisted living facility in Elkhorn City were safely evacuated during last week’s devastating flooding, according to officials.
The evacuation took place on February 15 after a nearby creek overflowed, washing out roads and making travel dangerous. Crews worked for 12 hours to relocate residents to other facilities.
Residents say staff took extra precautions to ensure their safety. Stewart Baldridge, who was among those evacuated, praised the team’s efforts. “They took precautions and got us all out, and they had their routine and everything went perfect,” Baldridge said.
Facility officials confirmed that an evacuation plan was already in place before the flooding, allowing staff to act quickly when conditions worsened.
