Picnic aims to improve relationship between police and community
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Despite the rain, great weather for a picnic Saturday. About 1,500 people enjoyed one at Douglas Park in Lexington.
It was the Human Rights Commission’s first annual picnic with the police, the goal of which is to create a better relationship between police and the community they serve in Lexington.
“We don’t want this to be an adversarial relationship, when you see a police officer you turn the other way and run, so to get them here today in plain clothes without a uniform, and you know, drinking and eating a hot dog together is just a great event,” said Ray Sexton, the Executive Director of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Human Rights Commission.
Community sponsors donated everything at the picnic, making it completely free.
