Phone scam warning in Hazard

HAZARD, Ky. (WTVQ) – Hazard Police are warning of a phone scam that is going around the area.

Investigators say a man identifying himself as Dan Jones is telling people a family member is in a Florida jail and needs money in order to be released.

Police say the man then instructs them to go to a Walmart and buy prepaid debit cards and send him the information on the cards.

Don’t fall for it.  It is a scam.

No legitimate jail or law enforcement agency would ask for a bond or bail payment in this form.
