Phone scam warning for people in Laurel County

Deputies say a scam artist is asking people to pay money to avoid arrest

LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is warning people about a phone scam to watch out for in the county.

Investigators say the scam artist identifies himself as Major Chuck Johnson with the sheriff’s office and the caller ID number is 606-864-6600.

The caller tells people they have pending criminal charges and they need to go to Kroger to buy a money card and send it to the “sheriff’s office” or deputies will come and arrest them.

Don’t fall for it.

Deputies remind people not to give out personal or financial information out over the phone.
