Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle suspends campaign for Judge Executive

PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle says he is suspending his campaign for Judge Executive.

In a statement, Engle said after announcing his candidacy last week, he was made aware of matters that could require a full audit and possible investigation. He reported the information to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office.

Engle said he believes it would be a conflict to continue his campaign while those matters are under review. He emphasized that he is not suggesting wrongdoing by anyone and that the investigation could clear up any questions.

He added that his first duty remains enforcing the law and serving Perry County as sheriff.
