Perry Co. crash kills one

BULAN, Ky. (WTVQ) -Kentucky State Police are investigating after a fatal crash that killed a man early Monday evening.

Troopers say they received a call about the wreck on KY Highway 476 just after 5:30 p.m.

Investigators say a 2007 Kia van traveling westbound crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane, colliding head-on with a 1999 Chevrolet pickup.  The driver of the pickup truck, 39-year-old Stephen Griffie, of Hyden, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry County Deputy Coroner.

The driver of the Kia van, 39-year-old Kaegan Welch-Embrey, was airlifted to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kengsport, TN, for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Toxicology reports are pending on both drivers, and no criminal charges have been filed at this time.
