People head north through Kentucky to escape Irma
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Maybe you’ve noticed extra traffic on I-75 in Kentucky. It’s because people from Florida are headed north to escape Hurricane Irma.
A husband and wife from Nassau County, Florida grabbed their two young children, the family photos, then got in the car and left before they no longer could.
They’re headed to Ohio to stay with family. The father of two says the sunshine state was running out of water and gas, and his wife was getting scared.
“So we went through Georgia, Tennessee, and now we are in Kentucky. A lot of places they were having problems getting water and I know yesterday when I went to get gas, there was no gas and finally they got a fuel truck and I guess they unloaded it and so we stood in line for awhile and got gas. Every hotel that we were trying to stop at in Georgia was packed except for one and then we finally got one room, stayed there till about 2 o’ clock last night and then left this morning.”
They’re not sure when they’re headed back. The family plans to play it by ear until the storm passes.
