Pedestrian killed in Wednesday car crash identified

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A tragic accident in Lexington has resulted in the death of 67-year-old Billy Gene Messer. According to a press release from the Fayette County Coroner’s Office, Messer was struck and killed by an SUV at the intersection of Man O’ War Boulevard and Beaver Creek Drive Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:27 AM when the driver of the vehicle reportedly disregarded a red light and entered the intersection, hitting Messer who was crossing the road on foot within the designated crosswalk. Lexington Fire and EMS responded, and Messer was pronounced dead when they arrived. The cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma, according to the coroner.
