Parole Board revokes Ronald Exantus’ supervision, orders he remain incarcerated
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Kentucky Parole Board says it has revoked Ronald Exantus’ Mandatory Reentry Supervision and ordered that he remain in prison, following a file review conducted on Nov. 20.
According to a written statement from the Parole Board, Exantus admitted to violating the conditions of his supervision after being returned to Kentucky late last month. The Board determined that under Kentucky law, Exantus’ failure to comply with supervision terms “constituted a significant risk to prior victims or the community at large” and that he “cannot be appropriately managed in the community.”
The Board emphasized that it did not release Exantus earlier this fall. In its statement, the Board said that “every time it had the opportunity, the Parole Board recommended Exantus stay in prison.” However, under Kentucky law, the Department of Corrections was required to release Exantus on Mandatory Reentry Supervision on Oct. 1, as outlined in the law.
Under the law, Exantus was able to request to serve that supervision in Florida, and the state accepted transfer under the Interstate Compact for Adult Offender Supervision. On Oct. 12, he was arrested in Marion County, Florida, for failing to register as a convicted felon, which was a condition of his supervision. A Florida Commission on Offender Review official later ordered that Exantus be sent back to Kentucky.
According to the Parole Board, Exantus was returned to Kentucky on Oct. 29 and remains behind bars at the Kentucky State Reformatory.
The Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet said Exantus waived his right to a revocation hearing after being brought back to Kentucky.
In 2018, Exantus was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2015 stabbing death of 6-year-old Logan Tipton inside the family’s Versailles home. He was also found guilty but mentally ill for stabbing Tipton’s sisters and father.
