Parking restrictions in effect near downtown Lexington
The parking restriction went into effect at 6 p.m. Thursday along 12 streets throughout downtown Lexington and throughout UK’s campus.
Lexington Police say if vehicles are parked in a restricted zone past the 6 p.m. deadline, they will be towed at the owner’s expense.
The streets affected by the parking restrictions include:
- Limestone – Avenue of Champions to Maxwell
- Pine Street – Upper to Limestone
- Jersey Street – Euclid to Maxwell
- Maxwell – Upper to Limestone
- Transcript Avenue
- Journal Avenue
- Conn Terrace
- State Street
- University Avenue
- Elizabeth Street
- Crescent Avenue
- Westwood Drive
- Scott Street (meters in front of Fire Department Station 6)
Other streets could be also restricted, as needed, the police department says.
According to Lexington Police, "No Parking" signs have been hung in the restricted areas. Any meters inside of the restricted zones have a red "Tow Zone" cover over the top of them.
The department suggests parking on a non-restricted street or in a parking garage.
A note on parking garages: Lexington and University of Kentucky Police Departments will be occupying Level H of the Good Samaritan parking garage and the top level of the Chandler Hospital parking garage (Parking Structure #8) beginning at 6 p.m. on Thursday. They will be parking their vehicles and staging other equipment in those areas, officials say. Other vehicles should be moved prior to that time.
The best advice, the city says, is when you do park, look around for no parking signs or tow zone signs to make sure you won’t get towed.
The parking restrictions end Friday, March 27 at 6 a.m.
