Paris welcomes new Eiffel Tower, celebrates Viewer’s Choice Award win

PARIS, Ky. (WTVQ) – Paris had a lot to celebrate this afternoon as the city unveiled the new Eiffel Tower, the city’s tribute to its namesake, Paris, France.

The ribbon cutting also was a chance to for the historic community to recognize it’s own traditions and those who came together to make this event happen.

“You know, it was a far-off dream, so to see this come to reality, it’s just an amazing thing to say, ‘Hey we have big goals, we set big goals and we make them happen here in Bourbon County,'” said Lauren Biddle, Executive Director of the Paris-Bourbon County Chamber of Commerce.

The timing could not have been better as well. This week, Paris was voted the “Best Downtown” in the ABC 36 Viewer’s Choice Awards.

Biddle shared, “We beat out towns that we consider – towns that we want to be like. Like Midway and Georgetown. And so that just means so much to us to have that recognition, to know that other people see that in us is very touching.”

A banner proclaiming the “Best Downtown” will be hung along Main Street to share the news with visitors and residents alike. Both are urged to come take pictures with the Tower at 8th and Main Street in downtown Paris.
