Paris Police Department warns of phone scam
PARIS, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Paris Police Department is making citizens aware of a local phone call scam. Authorities were made aware of calls that claimed to be from the Paris Police Department.
The caller would tell the target they owed money to the local law enforcement, then provide instructions on how to make the payment. As stated by the Paris Police Department’s Facebook post on the issue, “This is not the practice of the Paris Police Department so please do not fall victim.”
The police department’s post also mentions other circulating scam calls such as social security scam calls, Amazon hacked calls, lottery or sweepstakes winner scams and bank account fraud scams.
If an unsolicited call is made and money is demanded in exchange for any legal action to stop, this is typically a clear sign of a scam.
If any person information is asked for over the phone, citizens should hang up and call the actual office the call claims to be from to ask about any issues. Targets of these scams are advised to not click on website links, give information, or send money using any payment method.
