Owners of Derby hopeful ‘Hot Rod Charlie’ visit Woodford Reserve

WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Just days before the Run for the Roses, the owners of Kentucky Derby racehorse ‘Hot Rod Charlie’ took a break from Churchill Downs to visit the Woodford Reserve Distillery.

Five former Brown University football players and fraternity brothers hope to make history this Saturday by winning the Kentucky Derby with ‘Hot Rod Charlie’. On Wednesday, the group took a break from the Louisville racetrack to learn more about bourbon.

The group spent the afternoon rolling barrels of Woodford Reserve from the distillery to their resting place in the warehouse. They also learned about limestone water in Central Kentucky and its’ importance in making strong thoroughbreds and flavorful bourbon.

Eric Armagost, Dan Giovaccini, Reiley Higgins, Patrick O’Neill and Alex Quoyeser graduated from Brown in 2015. They got invoked in horse racing as a way to stay connected to each other.

As it stands now, ‘Hot Rod Charlie’ is at 8-1 odds to win the 147th Kentucky Derby. You can read more about the horse HERE.
