Overnight Fires Burn Across Lexington

Three fires broke out within three hours in Lexington between late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

The first fire happened just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday behind the Stop N’ Shop store on West High Street.

Officials said a pile of trash sitting behind the building caught fire, sending flames shooting high above the building.

A tree near the trash also caught fire, but crews were able to put the flames out quickly.

Officials said a fire investigator will be on the scene Wednesday morning to try to determine a cause.

The second fire was less than two hours later when a dumpster caught fire behind a warehouse near the corner of Jefferson and Ballard Streets.

Crews were responding to a call for a broken window at Stella’s Deli when they saw the burning dumpster.

Again, the fire was put out quickly.

As for the broken window, police say it didn’t appear that anyone made it inside or took anything from the deli.

The last fire happened just after 2 a.m. Wednesday on Glass Alley.

That fire destroyed a shed, heavily damaged an adjacent garage and also caused minor vinyl damage to some homes that sit right behind those buildings.

Crews said the fire is suspicious and an arson investigator was on the scene after the fire.

No word yet on how the fire might have started.

Officials said they don’t believe these three fires were connected.
