Over 20 injured in multi-vehicle crash in Lyon County, one killed

LYON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A multi vehicle crash on I-24 near Paducah Friday afternoon claimed the life of 19-year-old Jace Smothers.

Smoothers was working for Christ In Youth and was in a van with other interns when they got rear ended by a semi truck.

According to KSP, traffic was backed up because of a construction zone ahead of where the crash happened.

Twelve cars were involved, and twenty two people were injured, two of them are in critical condition and four of them were air lifted to a Nashville hospital.

The interstate was shut down for almost 12 hours.

Smothers just finished his freshman year at Ozark Christian College; they posted a letter to their community asking for prayers for his loved ones.

Smothers was a youth ministry major and a young life volunteer.
