Organizations team up to bring relief to flood victims in Frankfort
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — At 231 East Main Street in Frankfort, victims of the recent floods can walk in and find hallways lined with shoes, rooms full of clothes and a lower floor dedicated to cleaning supplies, toys and hygiene products.
As the recovery process begins, a group of organizations are standing by ready to help families get back on their feet.
The Franklin County ASAP Council, the William Joseph Crisis Nursery, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the County Attorney’s Office and the Wanda Joyce Robinson Foundation wasted no time organizing a flood donation plan.
“We have seen people come together in an extremely short amount of time and gather amazing resources for their neighbor, for someone that they don’t even know,” Dr. Qui Smith with the Wanda Joyce Robinson Foundation said.
Dr. Smith is one of the many people you’ll see when you walk into the donation center. Victim of floods are welcome here anytime from 2-6 in the afternoon.
“Once they sign in, they come, we show them around, tell them this is where you can get your clothes, where you can get your shoes,” Dr. Smith said. “After that, we send them downstairs where they can get cleaning supplies and hygiene products and things like that.”
She says without the help of their volunteers and members of the community who have taken time out of their day to donate, none of this would be possible.
“We have families that are coming in, they’re a family of seven, they’re a family of nine, but this is just a little bit, it’s not even a fraction of what they lost, it’s not comparable,” she said.
With each moment spent helping these flood victims and with each donation, the city of Frankfort is one step closer in the recovery process.
“To think about having a stranger help you get back on your feet, what more could you really ask for,” Dr. Smith said.
If you can’t make it to the donation center, volunteers can drive donations out to you. For more information, click this link.
