Operation Christmas Child Collecting Shoeboxes This Week

Operation Christmas Child is asking for your help this week to make sure children in need get a special surprise this Christmas.

OCC is an annual effort of Samaritan’s Purse International Relief. The gift-filled shoeboxes they collect are shipped throughout the world to kids in poverty-stricken areas who may not otherwise get any gifts during the holidays.

Those who want to participate are asked to pack a shoebox (or shoesboxes) for either a boy or girl with one of three age categories in mind: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.

Boxes can be packed with a variety of toys, school supplies, hygiene items, socks and other clothing accessories, and a personal note. Donors are also asked to include $7 with their donation to help cover shipping costs.

Shoeboxes are being collected until November 25 at a number of local churches. For a complete list of drop-off sites you can visit the "OCC Bluegrass" Facebook page here or visit the Samartian’s Purse website here.
