One person killed in Knox County house fire amid icy conditions

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – One person has died following a house fire Thursday night in the Cannon community of Knox County.

According to the Richland Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. to Twin Oaks Drive off North Kentucky 11 for a structure fire with a reported entrapment.

Firefighters say access to the home was extremely difficult due to icy road conditions and steep terrain.

As a result, crews had to stretch more than 500 feet of hose up a hill to reach the residence.

Officials say one person was inside the home at the time of the fire and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
