One man dead, four hospitalized after crash in Wayne County, Kentucky

WAYNE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A 59-year-old Wayne County man is dead and four others were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash Monday evening in southern Kentucky, according to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron.

The crash happened around 7:08 p.m. on West Kentucky Highway 90 at the intersection of Highway 1546, a location that has seen several fatal wrecks in recent years, including one earlier this year, according to a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s office

Deputies say a 2003 Chevrolet car, driven by the 59-year-old man, was headed west on KY 90 and attempted to pass another vehicle. That’s when it collided head-on with a 2001 Toyota pickup truck traveling east. The pickup was carrying two adults and two children, all from Albany, Kentucky.

The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County coroner.

Emergency crews treated the pickup truck passengers at the scene. They were initially taken to Wayne County Hospital and Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Two of the patients were later airlifted to University Hospital in Louisville by PHI Medical Helicopter Services.

The names of those involved have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
