One Lexington to host youth gun violence symposium

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – One Lexington is hosting its annual Youth Gun Violence Symposium on Thursday as part of the city’s continuing effort to reduce violent crime in Fayette County.

The event, which will feature national speakers and interactive workshops, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Spindletop Hall on Iron Works Pike.

According to the program’s director, there have been nearly 50 shootings and 17 homicides in Lexington so far this year — a reminder of the challenges the community continues to face.

The symposium brings together youth leaders, educators, law enforcement, and community advocates to discuss strategies for prevention and to empower young people to help create safer neighborhoods.
