WAVERLY, Ky. (WTVQ)- One person is dead and another injured in a single vehicle crash in Union County.
Kentucky State Police are still investigating the single vehicle crash on US 60 near KY 141 in Union County.
Prior to the fatal crash, a Union County Sheriff’s Department patrol stopped a Red Ford Contour near the Wal-Mart on US 60 in the Morganfield area on Wednesday, February 28.
The driver sped away from the traffic stop as the deputy approached.
The Ford Contour was going so fast that the deputy could not keep up or keep the vehicle in sight.
A call came in minutes later of a wreck involving the Ford Contour.
35 year-old Robert Bluem of Henderson was driving the Contour when it crashed.
He was speeding eastbound on U.S. 60 when he lost control.
Authorities believe that excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
The Contour went off the road, struck a culvert and tree before coming to rest.
Robert Bluem was reportedly not wearing a seat-belt, was ejected from the car, and taken to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville for life threatening injuries.
31 year-old Linda L. Smith-Bluem of Henderson, wife of Robert Bluem, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Right now, it is undetermined if she was wearing a seat-belt.
The investigation revealed that the Ford Contour was reportedly stolen in Vanderburgh County, IN.
Reports show that Robert and Linda Bluem had warrants for their arrest.
Next of kin has been notified.
