Troopers Handle Arrest Amid Harsh Weather Conditions

ROCKCASTLE COUNTY, Ky (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — One man is in custody after a barricade situation in Rockcastle County.

Trooper Scottie Pennington posted on Facebook, that police responded to a standoff on Kelsey Drive, off KY 461, late Tuesday night.

At approximately 4:18 a.m. Wednesday morning, Kentucky State Police Troopers from Post 11 London arrested 34-year-old Jason N. Cope of Mt. Vernon.

Cope was taken into custody after an overnight standoff and faces a series of charges, including seven counts of wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and persistent felony possession of a firearm. Cope also had two outstanding arrest warrants at the time of his arrest.

Despite the extreme weather conditions, with temperatures dipping to -2 degrees, all officers involved in the operation returned home safely, according to the Facebook post.
