Oldham Co. Jail escapee shoots self near Indy school
INDIANAPOLIS (WHAS/WTVQ) – An Oldham County Jail escapee shot himself near an Indianapolis middle school on Monday, according to an official.
An Oldham County Jail official confirms a man who shot himself in the neck near an Indianapolis middle school is John W Foster, IV, who walked away from a work detail in Oldham County on Sept 2.
The jail became aware of this incident when an Indy TV station started calling on Monday.
According to Indy Metro Police, a US Marshals Task Force had been tracking 47-year-old Foster in the area and believe Foster spotted police and that’s when he led police on a chase. The chase ended when Foster drove into the parking lot of the school and shot himself in the neck.
One officer also fired at Foster, but it’s not believed the officer’s bullet hit Foster, according to IMPD.
Foster had ties to the Indianapolis area.
Foster is a state DOC inmate, who was being held at the Oldham county Jail. He was convicted on Jan 10, 2014 on a charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a gun…and had been sentenced to five years in prison.
