Old Lexington courthouse illuminated for Fall Meet & Breeders’ Cup

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- The 1899 Fayette County Courthouse is now illuminated at night to celebrate the 2015 Keeneland Fall Race Meet and the Breeders’ Cup Championships.

The Lexington Downtown Development Authority, VisitLEX and Keeneland are responsible for the illumination. The groups say it will feature ‘Keeneland green’ throughout the race meet, then ‘Big Lex blue’ and ‘Breeders’ Cup purple’ during the Breeders’ Cup Festival Week. They say it will bring excitement into the downtown area, and compliment to the enhancements along Short Street.

“This building has long stood as the most notable landmark of Lexington. Illuminating the magnificent 1899 Fayette County Courthouse is a way to celebrate the momentum of investment happening in the center of Lexington,” says Jeff Fugate, president, Lexington Downtown Development Authority.

Vince Gabbert, Keeneland vice president and chief operating officer says, “The illumination of the old courthouse is the perfect way to celebrate the kick-off of Keeneland’s fall racing season and the homecoming of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Keeneland appreciates the efforts of the LDDA, VisitLEX and the city of Lexington to enhance the downtown experience for our out-of-town guests and the community.”

“The enhanced pedestrian corridor along Short Street and the illumination of the old courthouse are two shining examples of how Lexington community organizations and private entities can work together to welcome our visitors. October is always an exciting time to be in Lexington, and we look forward to hosting visitors from across the globe for the fall race meet at Keeneland and for the Breeders’ Cup Championships”, says Mary Quinn Ramer, president VisitLEX.
