Ohio man identified as victim of I-65 wreck
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say an Ohio man was killed in a wreck that closed down southbound Interstate 65 for several hours near Elizabethtown.
Police say a northbound tractor-trailer crossed the median after blowing a tire around 5:45 p.m. EDT Monday and hit a vehicle driven by 39-year-old Christopher Mayer of Loveland, Ohio. Police said Mayer was pronounced dead at the scene, and the truck driver, 54-year-old Ryan Romig of Greenfield, Indiana, is in stable condition at University Hospital in Louisville.
The lanes were closed until around midnight Monday and again for a few hours Tuesday for police to investigate. The Transportation Cabinet said traffic was detouring through a weigh station.
Cabinet spokesman Chris Jessie said northbound lanes in the same area were closed briefly Tuesday after a small motorcycle crash.
