Officials table comprehensive plan for goals and objectives in Winchester

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) — On Thursday, members of the fiscal court and the city commission met to discuss the agenda on goals and objectives.

A plan that has been in the making for over a year.

“It’s a solid plan that’s been put together with a lot of public input. It’s based on quality research and really the the will of the community about how we wanna grow here,” says Will Mayer, the executive director of the Clark Coalition.

The meeting coming together as some residents and members of the community learned there was set to be a different proposal, that some said it departed from the county’s long-withstanding development plan.

“This county has over 14,000 acres of developable land inside our current urban planning boundary. And I think what you saw in there tonight was that there’s some confusion among the magistrates about where that boundary is. One of the big issues here is about development on US-60. And so the proposal that has been made and frankly rejected was about expanding development all the way to the Fayette County line,” added Mayer.

After further discussion, “we understood that they were gonna go through the, goals and objectives line by line and make their proposed changes and vote on that tonight. So this was a welcome surprise that they ultimately voted to table it. We’re gonna continue to work to make sure that the voice of Clark County citizens is brought forward in this process and that we continue to grow in a smart, responsible way,” also says Mayer.

There will be a special meeting to decide how they move forward with the comprehensive plan in the coming weeks.
