Officials remove chief from position as trustee

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Officials in Bullitt County have voted to remove a fire chief from his position as a trustee on a fire protection district board.

The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/15O8QIl) reports the move on Tuesday came amid questions and concerns over how the district uses tax money.

The newspaper reports that in addition to being a trustee, Southeast Bullitt Fire Chief Julius Hatfield is also vice-chair of the Southeast Bullitt Fire Corp., a private company contracted by the board to provide fire protection services.

Magistrates said they had no control over the other positions, but had authority to remove him as a trustee on grounds of a conflict of interest.

Hatfield didn’t attend the meeting, but officials set meeting for Dec. 16 at which he can respond.
