Officials: Man accused of hitting Bell County Deputy Sgt. over 25 times
BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man is in custody after punching a Bell County Deputy Sgt. in the face over 25 times, according to the Bell County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say, on Thursday they responded to Ferndale Apartments because 23-year-old Cody Hoskins was violating the conditions of his release on a strangulation charge.
When Bell County Deputy Sgt. Patrick Brooks arrived on the scene he ordered Hoskins out of his vehicle.
As Deputy Sgt. Brooks was attempting to cuff Hoskins, he was able to pull away and the two started to fight, according to authorities.
Deputy Sgt. Brooks was punched in the face approximately 25-30 times, according to deputies.
Authorities say, Deputy Sgt. Brooks was attempting to deploy his baton when Hoskins fled.
According to the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, Hoskins was stopped by two good samaritans who helped take him into custody.
Officials say, Deputy Sgt. Brooks and Hoskins were examined at Pineville Community Health Center for their injuries.
Hoskins was then lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with violation of conditions of release, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct – 2nd degree, assault 3rd degree – police officer, disarming a peace officer, and fleeing or evading police – 2nd degree (on foot).
