Officials look to lessen impact of hospital closure
FULTON, Ky. (AP) — A hospital in western Kentucky plans to stop offering acute inpatient and emergency room services at the end of March.
The Paducah Sun (http://bit.ly/1yJ4nmr) reports the closure of Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton could deal a blow to both the health and the economy in the region. It has operated in the community for more than 20 years.
County and city officials said they would work to make sure residents get the care they need and to lessen the economic impact. The hospital employs 192 people.
When Parkway closes on March 31, the newspaper reports the next closest hospital for residents will be at least 12 miles away.
