Officials expect significant impacts from winter weather

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – City crews in Lexington began pre-treating roads ahead of the latest round of winter weather, according to city officials. The move comes as part of several improvements made following January’s snow and ice storm, including adding more snow plows, increasing manpower, restocking salt and Beet Heet, and improving communication with Fayette County Public Schools.

Meanwhile, Governor Andy Beshear announced that all state office buildings in Frankfort will be closed Tuesday to ensure employee safety as winter conditions intensify.

“We’re asking everybody to be really careful. Take more time,” Beshear said. “We’re closing our state office buildings to protect our workers, and we’re asking them to telecommute to provide those services that people need.”

State and local officials confirmed that road crews have been out since midnight, working to clear snow-covered roads and ensure safer travel conditions for drivers. Authorities continue to urge residents to use caution and avoid unnecessary travel.
