Officers Save Christmas For Lexington Family

"Officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress,” Lexington Police Sgt. Jeremiah Davis recalled. “Upon arrival they realized the Christmas presents from the residence had been stolen."

It was only a week before Christmas when someone stole presents from a mother who has custody of her three nieces and nephews.

Davis said he got the call from the officers on the scene asking if there was anything they could.

"To be able to say yes,” Davis recalled. “To be able to say ‘please set up a time with the family and go out and make these children have a wonderful Christmas’ was wonderful."

Davis runs the Fraternal Order of Police’s “Shop with a Cop” program which helps underprivileged kids in Fayette County have presents for Christmas.

The program took the officers and the three kids Christmas shopping.

"For these officers to be able to go out here and be thinking about what more can we do to help these people shows that these officer’s hearts are in the right spot,” Davis said.

"To have that positive interaction with the officers [and] to see the mother standing there, smiling with her kids, knowing that she is going to be able to have a good Christmas with her children," Davis said with a smile on his face."It’s wonderful feeling inside."
