Officers pull driver from burning car in Garrard County

LANCASTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – Officers are being credited with saving the life of a man trapped inside a burning car following a wreck in Garrard County Tuesday morning.

The Lancaster Police Department says someone called in around 5 a.m. to report an erratic driver near Sugar Creek Road in Lancaster.

Police went to the scene where they say they found a car off the roadway on fire with an unconscious driver trapped inside.

An officer tried to free the driver and when he couldn’t get him out, he started to extinguish the fire to keep it from reaching the driver.

Another officer arrived on scene and broke out a side window of the car. Both officers pulled the driver out.

Police say the driver had a pre-existing medical condition, which led to the crash.
