Officer, teachers injured at fight at Scott County High School

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Georgetown officer and two teachers were injured when they tried to break up a fight between several students at Scott County High School Thursday morning.

Georgetown Police say at around 8:40 a.m. an officer at the school saw students fighting and stepped in to stop it. The students continued fighting and police say more students joined in and other fights broke out. Police say at one point, there were seven to ten students involved.

Two teachers tried to help the officer stop the fights.

Those teachers and the officer were assaulted and injured, according to police.

They say there were no weapons involved and there were no serious injuries.

The Georgetown Police Department says the fight was the result of an ongoing conflict between the students involved and that Scott County High School administrators were taking steps to try and prevent the conflict from escalating.

Police say they do expect criminal charges to be filed in connection to the assaults.
