Officer On Horseback Hit In Downtown Lexington

A police officer on horseback was hit by a car in downtown Lexington Thursday night.
Police said two mounted patrols were going down Main Street near Felix Street at around 10:30 p.m. when a black passenger car struck one of the horses.
The officer on the horse was thrown.
Police said the driver of the car kept going.
The officer was taken to University of Kentucky hospital to be treated for what are being called minor injuries, according to police.
They said a veterinarian came to the scene and examined the horse.
It suffered some bruising and scrapes but is said to be fine.
Police are still searching for the driver of the car. They believe one of the windows of the car was broken out during the accident because of the amount of glass at the scene.
Main Street will be shut down for several hours while the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigates.
