Officer involved shooting under investigation at Berea Walmart

BEREA, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — An investigation is underway after an early morning officer-involved shooting at the Walmart in Berea.

According to the Berea Police Department, officers were called to the store to investigate a stolen vehicle. When officers tried to make contact with the driver, officials say the driver put the vehicle in reverse, hitting an officer and pinning him between two cars.

Police say the officer fired his weapon into the vehicle to stop it.

One officer and two other individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been released.

Berea Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public and that everyone involved is now in custody.

As is standard procedure, the Kentucky State Police is leading the investigation into the shooting.

Walmart remains open, though police are asking customers to avoid the area where officers are continuing to work the scene.
