Officer injured while apprehending suspect

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man is in jail after police say they had to chase him down following a burglary.

According to officers, 42-year-old Garrett Pennington forced his way into a home with a crowbar and took a woman’s purse.  Police say they saw Pennington running off and ordered him to stop.  Investigators say Pennington, instead, jumped on a bike and tried to ride away.

Police were able to catch Pennington and get him off the bike, though an officer suffered a knee injury.  Investigators say that along with the victim’s purse, they also found a syringe on Pennington.

Pennington was charged with burglary and evading police, among other charges.
