Officer injured during arrest in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Lexington police officer was injured Wednesday morning while trying to make an arrest.

The Lexington Police Department says two officers spotted a car parked in the middle of the road on Executive Drive around 8:40 a.m.

Police say the driver got out of the car as the officers approached and, after talking to him briefly, the officers say the man tried to run off.

The officers caught him but say he began resisting arrest and there was struggle.

Police say during that struggle, one of the officers suffered a leg injury.

He was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injury.

The suspect was also taken to the hospital to be checked.

Police say they believe the suspect was under the influence.

His name has not been released but he is facing charges of assault, resisting arrest and possession of a firearm, according to police.
