NWS: Tips to prepare for Monday’s storm

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) –  According to the National Weather Service multiple rounds of organized severe weather are expected starting Monday afternoon and then again early Tuesday morning. 

Heavy rainfall, flash flooding and damaging wind gusts are expected over the next 48 hours with these severe thunderstorms.

Before leaving your home Monday morning be sure to remove materials that could be a hazard during the storm. They include backyard furniture, door posts, potted plants, and grills. Consider any debris that might damage your property.

Forecasts show there will be a lot of wind with the storm which could cause falling tree limbs and debris to fly around.  Bringing your car into your garage or carport is highly recommended.

Be sure you’re pets have secure shelter as well clean water and food.

During the storm the National Weather Service advises everyone to watch out for fallen power lines and report any downed lines to your local power company. If there is flooding in your area it is advised that you do not risk driving through it.

It’s recommended that you keep your phones charged in the event of an emergency or power outage.
